Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) is a persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic flame retardant recently banned by over 170 countries at the United Nation’s Stockholm Convention in May 2013. Used extensively in EPS and XPS foam insulation around the world, HBCD must be replaced with a safer chemical solution by July 2015. MegaMatter has developed the first non-toxic, non-halogenated flame retardant alternative to HBCD. Cheaper and safer than the proposed replacements, our patent-pending solution easily incorporates into existing foam manufacturing techniques, allowing chemical and material companies to exceed increasingly stringent health and safety regulations for flame retardants without compromising the price or quality of treated foam. MegaMatter was recently accepted in Stage 1 of the E-Team program.
