Joseph Hartman serves as Dean of the Francis College of Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.  Hartman received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology  after receiving his B.S. in General Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He previously served as Professor and Chair of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Florida, as well as Department Chair of Industrial and Systems Engineering of Lehigh University while holding the Kledaras ’87 Endowed Chair. His research focuses on discrete optimization with applications in engineering economics, finance, and transportation systems. His work has been supported by numerous companies and the National Science Foundation, including the CAREER award in 1999. He has authored the textbook Engineering Economy and the Decision-Making Process, served as editor of The Engineering Economist for eight years, and was recently named a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers.
