Ed Pines is Department Head of Industrial Engineering at New Mexico State University and Director of Distance Education for the College of Engineering. A graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, Dr. Pines earned his M.Eng. and PhD in industrial engineering from The Pennsylvania State University. His research interests are in quality, public policy and ergonomics. Dr. Pines is an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer. He is co-PI for a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to broaden participation among minority engineering students through engagement in innovation and entrepreneurship and a faculty Enterprise Advisor for an i6 Challenge grant through the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) to foster regional economic development through innovation and new business start-ups. He is co-lead for a NSF funded Pathways to Innovation cohort at NMSU with a focus on integrating innovation and entrepreneurship into the engineering curriculum through a blending of industry and educational experiences and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Quality New Mexico, which uses the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence to conduct organizational assessments.
