University of Texas Southwestern Medical School

Originally from Houston, TX, Mary Ashley graduated in 2014 from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in electrical engineering. It was during her time at UT Austin that she developed a passion for biomedical innovation, which has carried over into her medical school experience at UT Southwestern. While taking the Innovating Healthcare Solutions elective as a first-year at UTSW, Mary Ashley worked on a team project that focused on the development of a tissue protecting retractor for hip replacement surgery. She is now looking forward to helping facilitate the Biomedical Innovation program for future students and hopes to promote a greater integration of medicine and technological innovation within and beyond UT Southwestern.
