Katelyn Holmes is a dual-title Ph.D. Candidate in Health Policy & Administration and Demography at the Pennsylvania State University where she also earned a B.S. in Human Development & Family Studies. Her primary professional interests include health disparities, access to healthcare, and innovation in healthcare for resource-constrained environments, particularly developing countries. Ms. Holmes served as a Humanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship Fellow and oversaw ground operations of the Mashavu: Networked Health Solutions project in rural Kenya, where she piloted innovative health systems data collection tools. The Mashavu system seeks to increase access to personal health information and health professionals in rural areas through a telemedicine social franchise. Additionally, for three years, she conducted breast cancer disparities research in Appalachia as a Susan G. Komen Post-Baccalaureate Training in Disparities Program scholar.
