Emily Stark is Associate Director of the Carnegie Mellon Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. She is responsible for project management, marketing and public relations, grantwriting, and oversight of the CIE’s operations. Before joining the CIE, she served as Associate Teaching Professor and Assistant Department Head of Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon, and maintained her work as a freelance biomedical writer and principal at Interphase Communications. She also spent a number of years in immunology and vascular pathobiology research at both the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Wisconsin. With degrees in rhetoric (Ph.D., Carnegie Mellon University) and biological sciences (M.S., Carnegie Mellon University), and professional experience that spans the humanities, the sciences, and the arts, Emily works to interweave Carnegie Mellon’s culture of scientific, technical, and artistic expertise with its growth in innovation and entrepreneurship.
