invitation
Dear Colleague,
We are delighted to invite you to the first European Biomedical Innovation Investor’s Day, an event focusing on new medical technologies to be held in Barcelona, on September 9th, 2014, at the CCCB – Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona.
The event will be promoted by six organizations that deliver disruptive training programs based on the novel Biodesign methodology. All of them share the common goal of developing innovative ecosystems to accelerate entrepreneurship in healthcare and to significantly improve patients’ quality of life through the design, development and implementation of innovative and cost-effective medical device solutions. Traditionally, medical device innovation has emerged from research and technological centers. However, these educative programs foster a new approach, challenging their fellows to address real unmet needs in healthcare by conducting clinical immersion in top hospitals to later develop new products and services that fit society’s demand. The method is proven successful: since its conception in 2001, the Stanford Biodesign Fellowship, pioneering program in the field, has trained over 850 professionals, led to the creation of 33 companies, won more than $300 million in venture capital investment and created over 600 highly qualified jobs. In addition, more than 250,000 patients have benefited from the technologies issued from the program. On September 9th, a selection of teams representing the programs run by Biocat (d·HEALTH Barcelona, Catalonia/Spain), BioInnovate Ireland (Ireland), the Center for Technology in Medicine and Health (Sweden), Inno X Healtcare (Denmark), Biodesign Israel (Israel) and Stanford Biodesign (California, USA) will meet in Barcelona to pitch their innovative solutions to a panel of international investors, entrepreneurs, business managers, policy decision makers and healthcare professionals.
