Designing for Diversity

Entrepreneurship education increases rates of entrepreneurship (Zhao, Zeibert, & Hills, 2005), yet women (Choi, Jeong, & Kehoe, 2012) and people of color are underrepresented in university entrepreneurship education programs. ASU students reflect the ethnic and socioeconomic demographics of the state of Arizona, and we are working to fully extend access in opportunity to our entrepreneurship programming. In this effort, we are using the design thinking process, in partnership with the end users of many of our programs, to solve this problem together. In this workshop, we will introduce the process of designing for diversity and how it is working for entrepreneurship programs at ASU, encourage faculty and program leaders to reflect on participation in their programs, and provide tools to implement potential solutions.
