Creating Inclusive and Interdisciplinary Design Competitions—OPEN ’23 Foundation Session

Design competitions and challenges have long been a way to catalyze student engagement in innovation and entrepreneurship. During this session you will hear how three different institutions have successfully designed and run their own design challenges. Learn best practices for supporting student innovators before, during, and beyond the competition. Topics covered include how to promote cross-disciplinary engagement and collaboration, the integration of college credit, and approaches to ensure student designs solve real-world challenges. The presenters also share how they engage off-campus stakeholders, including industry professionals, and universities from across the globe. Speakers: Zahra Hosseini, Oklahoma State University; Maggie Schoonover, Wichita State; Amanda LeMatty, Center for Medical Innovation; Robert Falconer, University of Utah.
