HandHero: A Low-Cost Medical Device for Rural Burn Patients
Flame accidents are extremely common in parts of the world where open fires are used for daily activities. Each year over 11 million people in developing countries suffer severe burn injuries on their hands, many of whom have limited access to adequate treatment and physical therapy. HandHero developed a low-cost, easy-to-use hand splint that prevents contracture, allowing burn survivors to rebuild muscle function and regain independence. Today, HandHero is manufacturing at scale with plans to initially distribute in Nepal and expand into other countries.
